STONE TOWN TOUR

The three – hours guided tour begins and ends up at your hotel where you will walk/driven to the city market that opened in 1904. Here you will be able to see and buy tropical fruits, fresh spices, exotic soap bars, or other traditional “house holding” items. You will also feel the pulse of Zanzibar and hear different dialects being spoken by the people at the market…

From there we proceed to the Anglican Church of Christ built by Bishop Steers in 1874 on the site of old slave market. You will see the room where slaves were kept (slave chambers) before reaching the auction table in the Old slave market. From there you go for the National Museum of Zanzibar that opened 1925, to see many interesting relics from the time of the Sultans and the early explores. Your guide will also take you for a drive along the beach road up to Forodhani Gardens where you will see the Old British Consulate (the house where the body of late Dr. Living stone was kept and later sent to Britain). SPICE TOUR

Tropical fruits, spices and other rare plants are among the different vegetation you will be able to see in this guided tour. It is not only a tour but also a rare experience to realize why Zanzibar are called the “Spice Island”.

Get the magical smells and taste the varieties of tropical fruit s and spices as well as seeing the local peoples at their pulse. The tour starts with a drive through a profusion of greenery in the countryside seeing, smelling and tasting a variety of spices and mouthwatering tropical seasonal fruits such as jack fruit, pineapple, banana, green coconut juice, dourian, love apple, litche, soursop and so on. Spices such as cloves, cardamon, cinnamon, black pepper, turmeric, vanilla, and nutmeg – are as exotic as the flavor! A full tour involves much more than spices, and you will also have a chance to see the iodine plant, henna bush, ylang-ylang, the lipstick tree, cocoa, and coffee trees amongst others.

PRISON ISLAND

Starting the excursion from your hotel in the morning takes you first to the port, and then with a small boat out to the small island off the western coast of Zanzibar. This historical Island was formerly owned by an Arab and used for the confinement of refractory slaves.

General Mathews and the jail (goal) which still stands was built in 1893 and hence the name “Prison Island”. There you can see and feed Aldabra’s giant turtles that were brought by the Sultan Said Majid, visit the old slave prison ruins, swim, sunbathing and snorkeling. Today this island has a small bar where you can get refreshments and a beach resort for tourists. Extend your tour to include a visit to one of Zanzibar’s mystic sandbank islands.

SANDBANK VISIT

Extend your Prison Island trip to include the magic of Pange Island (Sandbank). This a “nowhere” island that twice a day disappear into the crystalline water by high tide. It is a relaxing place where you can go snorkeling to uncover the treasures of the Indian Ocean, or just enjoy a delightful lunch with a variety of local fruits, beverages and snacks. We will provide you with the necessary equipment. We also arrange Sandbank tours out from other destinations like Fumba, Nungwi, Paje or Matemwe.

SAFARI BLUE

You will be starting your day with a drive from your hotel to Fumba village, south west of Stone Town.
